    “You may or may not remember, but when you signed up with your ISP and any time you change or replace your Cable Modem or DSL modem, you have to tell your ISP the MAC address of your modem”. Procedures may differ among ISPs, but when I had my cable modem installed, I did NOT have to tell my MAC address to anybody. Possibly the engineer did it, certainly this wasn’t me.
