Dear Terry,
I too have had trouble installing Service pack 3 and so like you I am going to leave it for a while. The only thing now is - every time I switch off my PC I see that Windows is giving me a choice as to whether I want to install SP3 while switching off or leaving it until later. How can I stop this log-off notification?

I too had a fight with XP Service Pack 3. I was a good thing in some ways as I had to format my HD and start over. (It wouldn't fix it self when I tried to uninstall.) Now my PC is cleaner and runs much faster. It was due for a cleanup. I also got myself an image backup program and have a GOOD image of my PC (updated operating system and all my software) backed up in case of future disasters.
Recently, I got a notice from another eletter I subscribe to telling me MS had tweaked the Service Pack to remove some of the problems. I gave it another try knowing I wouldn't need to spend two days getting my system back. It worked without a hitch.
Good luck with your endeavor.
