    Re; Status bar icons disappearing.
    In XP – Right click Taskbar chose Properties and make sure that “Hide inactive icons” is not checked

    Terry,

    The problem with this program, and most others, is that it requires an updated signature file to identify a virus. Yes, I know they also use heuristics, but this is far from a worakable solution to catch new modern malware.

    I suggest that you take a look at eEye Blink. It does an excellent job of protecting against new attacks without requiring a signature database, blacklisted programs or websites, or heuristics. And, it does not slow down my modest sytem either.
