    Hi Terry,
Quoted below is a portion of your acticle from the most recent newsletter you sent to me. Thanks for doing this…

A small clarification may be worth considering tho.. , that being, & correct me if I’m wrong, - it is my understanding now, that with the advent of the new SP3 for XP, Microsoft have now made the in-built Windows firewall two way…?
Can you confirm this to be the case please…
(I have included the apprpriate portion of your Firewall acticle for your reference)
    Qoute:
    (”Firewall Software
While the Windows XP firewall is much better than no firewall at all, don’t count on the Windows XP firewall to meet your needs. You need a two-way firewall, which the Windows XP firewall is not!. Microsoft woke up and supplied a two-way firewall with Windows Vista.

The Windows XP firewall does not control outbound communications originating from your computer — and you should want to have control if adware/trojans/spyware or even commercial products want to talk to the Internet. Whether they are calling home or spewing spam, you want to be able to control your computer.)”

    Mike,
Since the advent of SP3 for Windows XP has not occurred yet, I can’t confirm that the firewall will become a two-way firewall.

All that is happened so far is that there is a beta version of Service Pack 3. Whether the beta has a two-way firewall or not, I don’t care. Features in beta versions sometimes disappear when the final version is released.

For now, my recommendation continues to be the Sunbelt Personal Firewall http://terryscomputertips.com/SPF
