This week’s online articles include:
* Computer Backup — How to Back Up Your Computer System
A subscriber wrote to ask about image backup software. In this case, “image” does not mean photos and pictures; it means that the hard drive is backed up as a single image that can be restored. In effect, we have the ability to create our own Recovery DVD’s with all of our installed programs and our data already included!
* Updates Last Week
I watch a few operating systems and programs for updates — mainly because these are the ones that I use or in which I am interested. What updates or versions were new last week?
* My Computer Security Software Recommendations
Want to know which Antivirus program I recommend? Which firewall program? Which Antispyware program? Which Antispam? Or, which router for your home network?

Terry, can you help please? I have a laptop drive from a laptop now housed in an external case through USB. It is 100gig, but there is a 7gig portion I cannot get rid of through formatting. It only reads 93gig. Is there a way to regain the missing space please?
Alan,
Unless you’ve found a 7 GB partition, you’ve got the right amount of space.
93 = 100, depending on how you count — and I’m not talking about rounding, either.
It all has to do with counting K as 1024 or 1000. There was a big lawsuit a number of years ago over the subject, so, at least here in the US, the hard drive boxes are all careful to say that they define GB as 1,000,000,000 instead of 1024 to the third power.
