Receive Faxes in Your Email?

A couple months ago, I signed up for a service at which I had been looking
for a while. CallWave Fax to Email lets me have a local fax
number — in whatever area code that I desire — that receives
faxes, turns them into Adobe Reader PDF files, and emails them to me.

I get all that for $7.95 per month, with an unlimited number of
faxes received (some of their competitors have higher prices AND
limits on how many faxes you can receive!). CallWave offers a
risk-free trial — try it for 30 days. If you don’t like it,
cancel it before the 30 day trial is up and owe nothing.

Amazingly, this whole service costs much less than a phone line
would cost, plus, I don’t to worry about the machine itself,
paper, ink or toner. PDF’s are easier to keep, too — of course
I can print the PDF if I really want a hard copy.

If you already have your own dedicated fax line, you can even convert it to Fax to Email and keep the same phone number — and, CallWave Fax to Email is still only $7.95 per month. There’s a $25 one-time activation fee to make the conversion.

Give CallWave Fax to Email a try.

GoToMyPC Review - Remote Access to Your PC

GoToMyPC is designed to allow a PC user to access his computer remotely. This user might be a salesman, a tech support person, a business man who left some files at the office (or at home), a traveler for business or pleasure. Access could be from across town or across the country.

Getting Started With GoToMyPC

On the remote PC, the PC that you’re actually using, you use a Java-capable web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) to access your host computer (your office or home PC). Any web browsers that supports Sun Microsystems’ Java (free, www.java.com) will work, although not all features may be available on some browsers. You can even access and control your Windows PC from a Mac.

On the host, you set up GoToMyPC so that you’ll be able to securely access it remotely.

The first step is signing up for the 30-day trial of the GoToMyPC service. The unlimited-use free trial for 30 days should give you ample time to decide if this service is for you. GoToMyPC is priced at $19.95 monthly or $149.95 per year (25% discount off the monthly rate).

GoToMyPC uses your email address and a double-password system to contol access. During this initial signup, you assign your passwords and, of course, they’re only as secure as you make them and keep them. Good paswords are mixtures of letters, numbers, punctuation (if allowed) and both upper and lower case. GoToMyPC requires the passwords to be at least 8 characters and to include both letters and numbers.

The first password is stored on GoToMyPC’s servers and is used to log into their service. The second password is stored on your home/office host computer. It is used to gain access to your PC.

High Quality Ink Refill Kits Save Up to 60% vs Mfg Carts

I’ve written about the PDF creation program Click2PDF a number of times. However, I just realized that I’ve never shown it in action.

I use Click2PDF to let me easily “print” PDF files to document web pages. I can log into an investment account and print multiple pages, even print multiple times, change the order of the print jobs in the file and then finally create the file.

This is much more efficient for me than even the “print once, create one file” approach of Adobe Acrobat or any of the other cheap (or free) PDF creation programs.

First, let’s take a look at a web page. I’m using Firefox, my normal web browser ( Get Firefox with Google Toolbar). The web site is Spice Barn, my favorite source for spices on the web. I’ll use it during this example (plus, you’ll see some of the things that I like to buy there!).

Speeding Up Windows XP

Remember back when you got your latest computer? It seemed so fast, so much faster than your previous computer. Now, if it doesn’t seem to drag, it just doesn’t seem as peppy as it used to…

Part of that effect is our memory — not the computer’s memory but the memories stored between our ears. We tend to remember the past with fond thoughts and rose-colored glasses. We also become used to the faster speed and expect it. Fast today is faster than it used to be .

There are some real aspects of computing, though, that affect our computer’s speed as we continue to use Windows.

The clean, fresh installation of Windows has little in the way of superficial extras that take up CPU cycles, that take up memory and that clutter the hard drive and the Windows Registry.
