Kerio Firewall Sale ENDS TOMORROW (June 30)

Sunbelt Software”s Web-Only special on their Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall expires this Friday (June 30th).

Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall, also known as Kerio Firewall, includes two-way firewall control, program-level controls, intrusion prevention controls, and watches privacy data, too. It”s easy to use and powerful.

I recommend that every Internet user have a firewall program that controls information flow in two directions. They need it whether they use dialup or cable or DSL or connect via Ethernet. They need it even if they have a router on their home network. There is no adequate substitute for two-way firewall software on your computer protecting your computer.

The Windows XP Firewall only controls inbound communication attempts. It assumes that everything originating on your computer is legitimate. But, how many home computers are sending spam and participating in botnets? Make sure yours isn”t one of them.

Kerio is the PC firewall that I use for my computers, my wife”s computer and my son”s computer. It”s the firewall that I trust to protect my family”s computers, our information, and my business. I”ve got four licensed copies of the full-function “paid version.”

Read my detailed review at my Terry”s Computer Tips web site.

Right now, until this Friday (June 30th), the Web-Only Coupon Code (KERQ206) can save you $5 off the regular price of $19.95 per copy. Get the Sunbelt Kerio Firewall for only $14.95.

They also have a “2-fer special” that”s an even better deal. The regular price is $39.90 for 2 licenses.

But, right now — until this Friday (June 30th) — you can save almost $15 on 2 licenses. You pay only $24.96 for to license the Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall for 2 computers.

Another Security Hole for Microsoft Office

ZDNet posted a security article this week Office hit by another security problem.

At first, I thought this was the usual buffer-overrun problem. Not so, but it was the third security problem with Office to surface within a week.

Quoting the article

A weakness in how Office applications handle Macromedia Flash files exposes Microsoft customers to cyberattacks, experts have warned.

Even more telling, though, was the response from Microsoft:

The issue relates to the ability to load ActiveX controls in an Office document and is not a vulnerability but an Office feature, a Microsoft representative said. “This behavior is by design and by itself does not represent a security risk to customers,” he said.

Gee, will they never learn? A freakin” FEATURE?

Microsoft has, for all these years, created applications that are great for the users. Unfortunately, they simply seem not have to considered the security implications. We do not have isolated, unconnected PCs these days.

Microsoft, we”re on the Internet. We”ve been in an Internet world for 10 years, too! Get rid of that abomination called ActiveX. I believe that the security problems of ActiveX, more than other reason, are the reason that over 10% of Windows users do not use Internet Explorer!

New Serendipity version

Serendipity, the open-source blog software that I use with Terry”s Computer Tips - the Blog, has finally reached the official release of version 1.0! Of course, it has been a great, stable solution for the almost 2 years that I”ve been using versions since 0.7.

You may not notice any changes yet, since Serendipity gives me a lot of configuration capabilities.

It”s about time to switch to yet another one of the site templates — I”m getting kind of tired or “Kubrick.” There are some new templates in the new release, too. You can see one of the other templates at my general blog www.TheNextWindow.com

You can get Serendipity at www.s9y.org
