Louisiana Pride Grist Mill

I”m working on a new web site project for a client,
Louisiana Pride Grist Mill

Louisiana Pride Grist Mill grinds field-dried corn to make Stone Ground Corn Meal, Stone Ground Corn Flour, Stone Ground Polenta and Stone Ground Grits. They are a small family-owned, family-operated grist mill located in Pride, Louisiana. Pride is just north of Baton Rouge, where I live.

They”ve been operating for a couple years already and are now establishing an Internet presence.

At this time, we”ve set up an “under construction” site with ordering and contact information. Longer term, they will have much more information on the site about their products.

For now, you can visit the temporary site and you can order stone ground corn meal, grits, flour and polenta by phone — 225-654-6131 — from Louisiana Pride Grist Mill.

Cox’s New Anti-Spam Filter System

Cox.net, also known as “Cox High Speed Internet,” announced yesterday (4/25/06) that they wil now filter what they identify as spam into “spam folders.”

In order to check our spam folders (one per email account) for good stuff, we have to log into our Cox webmail via our web browsers.

In the past, we had the choice of them deleting it or labelling it as “– spam –” and delivering it to use anyway. This latter was my choice. I use PopFile on my computer to identify and control spam.

With their new system, I”m very glad that I use the mailservers at my web host to handle my incoming (and outgoing) mail. The only things I EVER get via my Cox account are Cox”s announcements and spam.

Since I don”t use Cox”s web mail (although I just logged in and see that it is MUCH improved), I have no intention of logging into their webmail system every month to check for possible good emails among the spam.

There are always false positives. I don”t want an ISP stopping what IT thinks are spam from getting to me.

Murphy”s Law of Email says “The more important the email, the more likely it is to be found in the Spam Folder.”

I”ve seen Murphy”s Law of Email working many times in both the home and corporate worlds.

Email, Gmail and the Advantages of a Personal Domain Name

We use domain names every day to access web sites, to access our ISP”s email servers, and basically to do almost anything on the Internet.

As we become more and more dependent upon email for our business and personal lives, simply changing an email address becomes a trauma. Obviously, if you are leaving an ISP, they are not going to forward your email to you even for a short period, unless you keep your account active.

Another Look at Windows Defender

In my first few looks at Microsoft Anti-Spyware, I was impressed.

After Microsoft started to recommend “Ignore” on some adware threats, I started looking elsewhere. I settled on Sunbelt”s CounterSpy for my family”s computers.

I continued to use the Microsoft Anti-Spyware (beta) on my desktop, which is not my primary computer.

When beta 2 came out, it was renamed Windows Defender. I took a quick look and wrote about it.

After about 8 weeks, I had a new view of Windows Defender. Read more about it
